Within these works, I investigate the nature of language, both minimal and complex, through a process of concealing and revealing. Methods such as cutting stencils and folding paper tie my ideas to the body and its potential to be dissected and manipulated. Referencing internal and external anatomical forms, my work builds associations between my bodily attributes and painting process. In the Covered and Window series, I have established the canvas as a body constructed and displayed. Built from a network of layered spaces, these works are covered by obfuscating forms that stretch from edge to edge and conceal my process history. My single, direct action of “skinning” over the initial structure harnesses the energy of these visceral spaces while eliminating then re-establishing pictorial preciousness. The exposed passages become voyeuristic windows that penetrate and redefine these areas like a jab in the gut. _____________________________________________________________________________ My Knots strive to find identity in the simplest gesture: the drawn line. Through a process of drawing and cutting, I translate quick intimate actions into deliberate forms that challenge ideas about my physicality and how I interact with specific environments.
